4th EIB SME & Microfinance Academy 2019 in Lilongwe, Malawi

The 4th edition of the Academy that was held from 11 to 15 February 2019 and brought a new record participation of about 140 persons from 7 countries. The event was officially opended by the EU Ambassador Ms. Sandra Paesen, the Governor of the Reserve Bank Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and the Hon. Minister of Finance Goodall Gonde. The main topic of the Executive Symposium was financing of agriculture, value chain finance and how to de-risk it.

A pitch night for entrepreneurs gathered about 300 persons and more than 1000 persons followed the event on facebook. The winner was Mr. Emmanuel Banda, Co-Founder of Noble Agriculture Technologies. He will be supported by Frankfurt School to establish a bankable business plan and participating entrepreneurs got in contact with interested bankers on the spot.

On the EIB day the participants had the opportunity to exchange on credit lines and technical assistance with the delegates from EIB who presented their products and possibilities of supporting financial institutions in the Southern Africa region.

The great working sessions of the Training Academy covered diverse topics such as Cyber SecurityFinancing for Agriculture and rural SMEs: How to boost opportunities in the region?, Demonstrating Innovation in Agricultural Finance, Gender in Agriculture Finance – What should Customer Relationship Managers care of? and Leadership. As usual the Academy allowed for a lot of networking!
